Heartfelt thanks to our guests who braved the pouring rain to join us in the candlelit warmth of Fire Station Creative on Sunday to attend Intertwined’s Christmas concert.

In his opening speech, our host and trustee, Ian Moir, introduced the event and our charity Intertwined. Our distinguished guest from Glasgow, Father Andriy, continued with a special word and a call for solidarity with Ukraine in this season of giving. Our CEO and founder Svitlana Iniakoviene then provided us with the latest news regarding the cohort of Ukrainian soldiers currently being treated at our partner clinic Expio in Kyiv, thanks to our fundraising efforts and our supporters’ generosity.

Under the friendly and precise guidance of our new musical director, Bill McCance, our musicians went above and beyond to fill us with Christmas cheer, emotion and compassion. Another addition to our team, new master of ceremonies Gabrielius introduced the bands with enthusiasm and gusto.

After an energetic start to the concert with the Ukrainian Children’s Choir, Tony Bone Duffy charmed us with dreamlike folk and traditional songs. He was followed by the rising star Gabriele, who flew especially from Lithuania to enchant us with her heavenly voice. Olga Prokopenko brought the first part to a close, delivering Christmas numbers with perfect swing and style.

A short intermission allowed Intertwined’s guests to visit the stalls featuring select Ukrainian craft makers to fill their stockings with unique items.

After another powerful introduction by the Ukrainian Children’s Choir, the second part filled us with wonder as Lorna Reid and Neil Warden treated us to some of their latest tunes. Christmas turned bluesy and soulful as the audience clapped and cheered. To conclude the evening with a flourish, our returning guest musicians Viktor Soviak and Natalia Stets sang our Ukrainian favourites with unsurpassed flair and mastery.

The evening will be long remembered by our community, united by the strongest commitment to helping those hurt by war and trauma. Let the light of healing and togetherness shine the way in the winter months!
