Who we are and how we help
Intertwined is a charity founded by Svitlana Iniakoviene. Together, we aim to restore the lives of Ukrainian defenders and British veterans. They live with war mental trauma. When traditional treatments fail, we offer innovative approaches backed by science. These methods are proven to work for this specific type of trauma. Our programs include psychedelic-assisted therapy, such as ketamine therapy. We partner with leading clinics in Ukraine and Scotland to provide the best care possible. Learn more about what we do.

Our Founder

The story behind the creation of this charity is deeply personal.
When my brother volunteered to go to the front in 2022 to defend our homeland, Ukraine, I, living in peaceful and faraway Scotland, was overwhelmed with fear and despair. I threw myself into helping him and his fellow soldiers survive. My heartfelt impulse was quickly joined by many compassionate, talented people. Together, we organised very special charity concerts, exhibitions, and fairs that took place successfully across different regions of Scotland. These events helped raise funds to support and protect my brother’s aerial reconnaissance team in their efforts on the front line.
Gradually, more and more people and organisations joined us—those who saw the effectiveness of such direct aid: from ordinary people in Scotland to a few specific defenders fighting for the peaceful life and freedom of all of us.
This movement took on the very symbolic name Intertwined, reflecting the connection between us and the power of working together with unity and purpose.
By the third year of the full-scale war, a new and tragic—yet sadly inevitable—problem emerged: the mental health of those who have selflessly given everything on the front lines. The victims of this situation are our defenders, our soldiers—many of whom were ordinary civilians before the war, who took up arms when the enemy invaded because they simply couldn’t do otherwise. Now, they are struggling to cope with the traumatic experiences, the horrors they’ve witnessed and participated in. Their children, wives, and parents are suffering as well. It is nearly impossible to battle such a burden alone. These people urgently need help.
The scale of this crisis is immense. I became a witness to this looming mental health catastrophe through direct contact with soldiers, their families, psychologists, psychotherapists, and other professionals in this field during the many months I spent in Ukraine in 2024. I have felt the devastating effects of war-related psychological trauma on mental health within my own family. We experienced a personal tragedy related to the drastic and unstable changes in my brother’s behavior—on one hand – a war hero, on the other – a mentally and physically exhausted, broken man.
Wanting to help those who sacrificed themselves for all of us and who have lost the ability to live fully and find joy in life, I decided to establish the charity Intertwined.
With a team of like-minded individuals, we are working tirelessly to tackle this serious challenge—society’s mental health.
Treating war-related psychological trauma requires innovative approaches. We support the most progressive and effective therapy methods, collaborating with leading clinics in Ukraine and Scotland, with scientists advancing the most effective therapeutic ideas and practices, and with outstanding specialists who apply these methods and are changing lives step by step through their dedicated work.
